Did you know there are companies that will pay you to take photos of properties in your area? This side hustle is related to Property Preservation, and is in the same family of Field Inspections.
Companies need pictures of properties for one reason or another, so they utilize independent contractors to go to the locations of these properties, take a set of photos and submit them online, sometimes with a short report.
The reports are used in conjunction with appraisals, foreclosures, refinances etc. Lenders under Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have to meet guidelines regarding how the photos are taken.
If you are just taking basic residential exterior photos, don’t expect to make too much cash from one company. However, the more companies you sign up with, the more you will make.
Photos need to be taken during the day to get clear images. You will need a computer, printer, and camera (most companies will accept cell phone cameras.)
Depending on how invested you get with these gigs, you may need a utility safety vest, a laser measuring device, a camera pole, a measuring wheel for insurance inspections, and a camera pole cellphone adapter.
Some companies will also pay mileage, and travel time. Photos may include a car someone wants to buy, a house or a new construction site.
Background checks may be required (depending on the company). Companies that pay more will have more requirements. For example, one company through which you can make full time income, requires a business casual dress code.
